When I hit play on a movie there's no trailers, ridiculous menus etc, just the movie that starts playing with the audio track and subtitle options I want selected from the get go. They also support multiple subs and audio tracks if required.ģ. MKV's are smaller* and play on pretty much everything. I find also in the lounge where I like to keep things completely simple a single MKV file is more user friendly then a blu-ray with it’s menus etc and means anyone can watch a movie without asking questions/getting confused.Ģ. Even though ISO's works well with tmt etc I don't like having to 'leave' media center as it looks a bit crap plus it’s more points of failure. Once I have a bluray copied to ISO, at my leisure I will login to the server and convert the ISO to an MKV for 3 reasons:ġ. as well as the metadata which then makes it accessable from anywhere on the network. MyMovies identifies it and creates the artwork etc. I put the disk in and rip it to the server share as an iso, this is a 1:1 copy and I can carry out copying with my remote, also, anyone else that uses the machine can do this without pestering me. In the past I would occasionally launch MakeMKV manually for Blurays because it would not default to the highest quality audio track (DTS-TrueHD for example), however the newest version supports custom profiles so even this can be avoided.ĮDIT: For playing Bluray rips I setup MPC-HC as an external player for MKVs within MediaBrowser and in MPC-HC I use the LAV CUVID video decoder, LAV audio filter and MadVR render. All the above tools are free although MakeMKV must be updated occasionally to keep working. While MediaBrowser can retrieve its own metadata, you can configure AutoRipN'Compress to acquire the metadata for you automatically also. I have configured AutoRipN'Compress such that it rips DVDs to a "Standard Definition" folder and Blurays to a "High Definition" folder, which I browse to and launch via MediaBrowser. I have archived many of my Bluray movies this way and it can be done efficiently sans mouse. I would like to chip in another vote for MediaBrowser + MakeMKV + AutoRipN'Compress. mkv with other players (VLC or PowerDVD for example) alternative language and subtitle menu options may be available but if you are using Media Center you will be stuck with mp as this seems to be an fixed MC default for. mkv it should play in media player but make sure the language you want is the primary one and subtitles are off, as options to change these are not available in mp. You will need PowerDVD or TMT to actually play "Bluray" disc, folder or. Media player will play unprotected Bluray video files (M2TS) but only if you navigate to the STREAM folder and individually select them. iso I prefer ImgBurn as it is very helpful for suggesting the format that will work but it does not handle copy protected content so I tend to combine it with DVDFAB. I use DVDFAB to convert/copy works real well even with copy protected discs, I have not tried AnyDVD though. I read this thread with interest, it is nice to know how other handle this. Plus my family are the not most computer literate people and would like to keep things as simple as possible.Īny ideas and/or suggestions would be great. I don't mean to sound lazy I just would not like to get up and use the mouse to mount an ISO or anything like that. So far its been great, I would like to keep it like that. I currently have a HTPC setup that I watch TV on and use only my remote to get to everything. I find myself lost with all the different ways people are doing it and connect seem to find a definitive answer.įist, what software should I be using to rip the blu-ray to my PC, DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper, HandBrake, SlySoft AnyDVD HD, ect.?Īlso, what is the best way to play the movies in WMC? I would like to use the My Movies add-on for WMC to play them, I like the way it organizes the movies. I wanted to hear what others are using to back up their Blu-ray collection to replay in WMC? I have been trying for awhile but have cannot find a way to play the movies in WMC easily.
